Full Screen Map This is a remote hill on the NW side of the Pumlumon range. It is on Access land although it seems to be visited very rarely. As a result there are no well defined footpaths. The summit is very rocky which has inspired the construction of a cairn next to the triangulation pillar (TP4868). There is plenty of room for HF antennas and VHF take-off is good. However, don’t expect a pile-up on 2m FM! Report 1 SN 7224 9094 - Park on the forestry track (which is also a By-way) by the road junction. Room for several cars. From the parking spot walk WSW along the road for about 160m then head north and cross the stream and bog. Chose a place where the sheep obviously cross – they have the knowledge! Head for the rocky area in front of you and you will find a cattle track heading west. From the the top of this track head N uphill to the 460m contour. Follow this in a generally W direction until you meet the By-way that heads north. Follow that to the gate (X) then turn left and follow the fence line up to the summit. Small detours might be needed in places. NOTE: The obvious cairn you will see all the way up is not the summit.
Footnote: An easier but longer route might be: From the parking spot drive along the By-way to SN73199118. Turn left at this point onto another By-way and drive NNE to SN73549222, keeping left at any forks. Park up, then walk 2.8km along the track that heads W to SN71919203. At this point a By-way heads SW uphill. Take this and walk for just under 500m to the gate. This is the gate (X) in the previous route. |
