Full Screen Map The large parking area at NGR SD653282 that may be shown on some maps is no longer available and has a barrier across the entrance preventing vehicular access (G0VOF).
The summit is located in Billinge Hill Wood. While it is heavily wooded all around, there is sufficient open space at the summit 'viewing point' to erect an HF aerial (with care) on a quiet day. However be aware that the summit is on a mountain bike trail (G4BLH).
A PDF Map of Billinge Hill Wood is available Report 1 SD664284 Street Parking on Buncer Lane. - There is nowhere to park on Billinge End Road where the 'top' entrance to the Billinge Hill Wood is located, but there are street parking places just down Buncer Lane. Walk back up Buncer Lane and turn left onto Billinge End Road. The entrance to Billinge Wood is on the left approximately 200yds up the road (where the road bends to the right). Go through the entrance and follow the track to the right. Just keep following this track which gradually climbs up the hill. Turn left where it levels out (marker 4 on the PDF mentioned elsewhere) and you are at the viewing point. Report 2 SD 65377 28281 - Just off Billinge End Road. Room for one average size car or two small cars without obstructing the gates. A lot of rubbish around where I parked. It seems that the area is used at night by courting couples. Using GPS I followed tracks to viewing area at top of the hill. From car to top 12 minutes.(M0KCB) |
