Full Screen Map This summit is at the top of Black Rock Country Park where there is a convenient fence close to the trig point. Note there is a large mast close to the summit, so breakthrough might be an issue on VHF/UHF with a handheld. Expect visitors to the trig point. Report 1 SK290557 - Pay to park in Black Rock Country Park or park for free on the road outside if there is space. Enter the Country Park and cross the High Peak Trail. After the large rock formation, a number of routes eventually merge into one main track to the summit, with the footpath marked on the OS map taking a separate and more direct and steeper route to join the main track higher up. Minor scramble required on footpath. Report 2 SK 29540 54858 - Room for one or two small cars next to stone building. Cross the road and follow path heading downhill (NW) until you reach the first house on the bend. Looking across the road a sign marked "public footpath" can been seen (easily missed due to overgrowth). Go through very narrow gate and up steps following a clearly marked path until arriving at the summit. No scrambling required but the path can be slippery in places if it has been raining. Car to summit takes 10 minutes. No breakthrough experienced from Mast on 2m SSB or FM while using the FT817. Views limited due to trees. (M0KCB) |
